Expert Panel Luncheon
Course Description:
This session is a one and one-half hours course during which participants pose questions to the expert panel regarding the various aspects of home and commercial inspection scope and limitations, criteria for inspecting, risk management, safety, and inspection reporting requirements. This class is applicable to anyone desiring to learn about inspections per the industry standard and from well known experts in their fields of inspection related knowledge.
Participant Profile:
This course is primarily intended for home inspectors who wish to enhance their knowledge of inspection requirements and the process. Other participants could include contractors who are interested in inspection and who want to know more about inspecting homes. The primary goal is to help inspectors know: answers to their questions and improve how they communicate the importance of their findings and interact with clients.

Panel: Joseph Denneler, Esq., Bob Pearson with Allen Insurance, Ben Garrison with FREA, Steve Gladstone, ASHI Past President and other esteemed invited guests. Moderated by: Mike Casey. This session will delve into any inspection issue brought up by the audience for an expert answer; or at least an opinion. Attendees loved this session in Las Vegas and it is back by popular demand!
Moderator Bio:
Michael Casey is a partner with Casey, O’Malley Associates; a national A.M. Best recommended consulting firm based in San Diego. Mike is a past president of the California Real Estate Inspection Association (1994/1995) and of the American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI) (2002). Mike is multi-code certified by the ICC and IAPMO. He is a licensed general, plumbing and mechanical contractor in several states and a
Virginia Certified home inspector. Besides co-authoring several books in the Code Check series, Michael has authored numerous other books, and has taught home and building inspection and has an expert witness and claims consulting practice throughout North America since 1987. Mike has inspected over 10,000 buildings in his over 25-years career in the inspection profession.
Panel Bios:
Joe Denneler is a member of the Firm’s Professional Liability & Malpractice Defense Group. Joe defends home inspectors, real estate appraisers, real estate brokers and agents, lawyers, accountants and insurance brokers and agents in litigation matters. Joe is also a member of the Firm’s Commercial Transportation Litigation Group defending commercial fleet operators and drivers of tractor trailer combinations, busses, taxis
and limousines. In addition, Joe has extensive experience in insurance coverage disputes and casualty fire claims. Joe is an experienced trial attorney who has successfully defended several cases to verdict. Joe has also argued many appeals in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
Over the last ten years Joe has developed a niche defending home inspectors against professional liability claims in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Joe has been asked to defend home inspectors in State and Federal Courts, as well as in contracted-for Mediations and Arbitrations. As a result of his extensive experience representing home inspectors Joe is frequently requested to speak nationwide to inspectors on issues ranging from inspection report writing, drafting inspection contracts and preventing liability claims. Joe is often asked by insurance carriers to consult on claims against home inspectors all over the United States. Joe is the counsel of choice to defend home inspectors by many of the largest insurers of these professionals, and his proven track
record and commitment to success gives him a distinct competitive advantage. In ddition to litigating home inspection claims Joe is General Counsel to the New Jersey Association of Licensed Professional Home Inspectors (NJ-ALPHI) where he routinely provides lectures and continuing education seminars to New Jersey home inspectors.

Robert W. Pearson
Bob's previous experience as a home inspector gives him a unique perspective in dealing with home inspector insurance. Bob started his first inspection business in 1985 and since 2492 has been the manager of the Allen Insurance Group's inspector program along with maintaining a home
inspection business. He retired as an active inspector in 2000. He has written many articles on claims management and report writing. He is considered to be the foremost expert on home inspector insurance.

Stephen Gladstone has been inspecting homes since 1983 and is the President of Stonehollow Fine Home Inspections a multi-inspector home inspection and environmental testing company. He is licensed in CT, NY and MA. He has served as President of both the Southern New England and Coastal CT. Chapters of the American Society of Home Inspectors & was ASHI’s National President in 2004. Steve was Managing Instructor and Campus Director of Kaplan Professional Schools (ITA) in New Haven & Manhattan for 6 years. And is the Managing Instructor of The “ASHI School” in Stamford. He has written many articles for local papers, has been nationally interviewed in Reader's Digest and The Wall Street Journal, featured on “Ask This Old House” tv show and many syndicated radio shows. Steve is a contributing author for the ASHI® Reporter and many other periodicals. His newest book “The Field Guide to Home Inspections”, was published. He has produced & hosts his own Saturday morning radio show "Around the House with Steve Gladstone" in CT & NY for the past 11 years. He is a Supervisory Pest Inspector, Infrared Thermographer and Nationally Certified Radon tester. He lives in Stamford CT.

Ben Garrison, Vice President of Sales for FREA
For the past 6 years, Ben has served as FREA’s Vice President of Sales where his primary job is to build FREA’s membership by providing one of the most comprehensive insurance programs in the industry along with other membership benefits. His knowledge of insurance is extensive and he also consults with inspectors to help with their overall risk management practices. One of the biggest advantages of FREA’s insurance program is their excellent claims management program which Garrison as well as Joseph Denneler are an integral part of. Prior to joining FREA, Garrison worked as a Marketing Representative for Willis of Delaware (formerly the Zutz Insurance Group, Wilmington, Delaware) which manages FREA’s insurance program. Ben graduated from Lynchburg College in Virginia in 2000 with a B.A in Political Science
